“I en värld i spillror samlas en grupp människor för att skapa ett nytt samhälle. De är en blandad grupp, både vuxna, barn och ungdomar som tillsammans undersöker spillrorna av vår civilisation. Vad är värt att återskapa? Vad kan göras bättre? Vad behöver vi? Kanske framförallt – vad vill vi ha, när vi har chansen att börja om på nytt?
Gruppen börjar se vad som går att återanvända, gamla saker granskas och får nytt liv. Det tidigare konsumtionssammhället har efterlämnat ett outtömligt materialförråd, men hur kan det komma till nytta nu? Tillsammans experimenterar de med olika tekniker, de drejar, täljer, hittar nya funktioner för de gamla prylarna som de finner i skräphögarna.
De pratar om hur det var förr, hur fungerade infrastrukturen? Hur fick alla vatten? Hur tillverkades alla saker? Hur bodde vi?”
Babels Rehab är en fiktiv ramberättelse utformad av konstnären Nina Jensen vilken används som utgångspunkt för vår workshopverksamhet. I ett eget rum byggs en postapokalyptisk värld upp av ihopsamlat skräp, spillvirke, gamla förpackningar och annat upphittat material. När workshopsdeltagarna kommer till Babels Rehab besöker de inte Skånes konsförening, de besöker en värld efter katastrofen, där deras egna berättelser vävs samman med alla andra i den pågående historien om det postapokalyptiska hantverkskollektivet Babels Rehab. Ett mytomspunnet kollektiv som skapar hopp i en söndertrasad framtid.

Open workshop for all ages
”In a world in pieces a group of people gather to form a new society. The group is diverse, consisting of grownups as well as youths and kids. Together they examine the rubbles of our civilization. What is worth to re-create and what can be done better? What do we need? And perhaps the question above all other questions – what do we want when we get the chance to start over?
The group begins to investigate what can be reused, old things and pieces are reviews and given new life. The consumerist society that preceded the current state has left an inexhaustible supply of materials. Together the group are experimenting with different techniques, they carve, throw and find new features to the old things found in the heaps of junk.
They talk about what it was like before, how did the infrastructure work? How did everyone get access to water? How did they make all things and why? How did we live?”
Babels Rehab is a fictional frame crafted by the artist Nina Jensen and used as a basis for the workshop activities. When participants visits Babels Rehab they don’t visit Skånes konstförening but a world after the catastrophe where their own stories ar woven together with all other stories that together form the tale of the post apocalyptic crafts collective Babels Rehab. A mythical collective crafting hope in a broken future.
Come and spend the Gallery Night in the post apocalyptic crafts collective Babels Rehab! For this night we have collected clay from Ribban and pieces from parks and cemeteries in Malmö. Old as well as young, secure your future, build a survival-hut and make essential toys together!
