F\u00f6rel\u00e4sningen handlar om hur konstn\u00e4rer p\u00e5 1970-talet anv\u00e4nde sig av hemmets\u00a0milj\u00f6er f\u00f6r att st\u00e4lla\u00a0politiska fr\u00e5gor. Hemarbete och hemmilj\u00f6er har en komplex\u00a0bakgrund i konstens historia. Det \u00e4r\u00a0<\/span>\u00e4mnen som \u00e4r b\u00e5de undanskuffade och\u00a0centrala f\u00f6r hur konsten har utvecklats under 1900-talet.\u00a0Tematiken \u00e4r synlig i s\u00e5v\u00e4l konstn\u00e4ren Carl\u00a0Larssons nationalromantiska idyller fr\u00e5n sekelskiftet, som i\u00a0popkonstn\u00e4rers flitiga anv\u00e4ndande, och skildringar, av vardags- och hush\u00e5llsobjekt. Tematiken \u00e4r\u00a0ocks\u00e5 starkt pr\u00e4glad av\u00a0k\u00f6nsstereotyper, inte minst synliga i mottagandet av m\u00e5nga konstn\u00e4rers verk\u00a0under\u00a01960- och 1970-talen.\u00a0F\u00f6rel\u00e4sningen fokuserar fr\u00e4mst p\u00e5 konstn\u00e4rer verksamma under 1970-\u00a0talet, som\u00a0ifr\u00e5gasatte arbetsf\u00f6rdelning, kapitalism och traditioner, men r\u00f6r sig ocks\u00e5 bak\u00e5t i tiden,\u00a0liksom fram\u00e5t till v\u00e5r samtid, och globala v\u00e4rld.<\/p>\n

Katarina Wadstein MacLeod \u00e4r docent i Konstvetenskap och verksam som lektor i\u00a0Konstvetenskap vid\u00a0S\u00f6dert\u00f6rns H\u00f6gskola, och som lektor i konsthistoria och teori vid\u00a0Konstfack. Hon \u00e4r \u00e4ven verksam som\u00a0konstkritiker f\u00f6r Svenska Dagbladet. Macleod\u00a0arbetar f\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande med ett forskningsprojekt om\u00a0hemmet som en tematik i svensk\u00a0konst under 1960- och 1970-talet.<\/p>\n

F\u00f6rel\u00e4sningen \u00e4r den f\u00f6rsta i serien Samtalsserie om\u00a0populism, en serie om fyra f\u00f6rel\u00e4sningar\u00a0p\u00e5\u00a0Sk\u00e5nes Konstf\u00f6rening under 2015 och 2016 p\u00e5 temat populism, integritet och konstn\u00e4rlig\u00a0autonomi.\u00a0Samtalsserien unders\u00f6ker hur konsten ska kunna fokusera p\u00e5 sina egna\u00a0maktstrukturer utan att bli\u00a0populistisk, \u00f6verpedagogisk, funktionell och m\u00e5lgruppsorienterad.<\/p>\n

Katarina Wadstein MacLeod \u00e5terknyter i den inledande f\u00f6rel\u00e4sning i serien till id\u00e9n om\u00a0konstn\u00e4ren\u00a0som autonom, genom att lyfta fram konstn\u00e4rliga praktiker fr\u00e5n 1960- och 1970-talen som just motsatte\u00a0sig s\u00e5dana id\u00e9er. Resterande f\u00f6rel\u00e4sningar inom ramen f\u00f6r serien kommer att ber\u00f6ra begrepp som\u00a0strategisk essentialism, samt unders\u00f6ka s\u00e5v\u00e4l\u00a0modeller f\u00f6r kulturella motst\u00e5ndspraktiker, som p\u00e5 vilket\u00a0s\u00e4tt politisk populism infiltrerar\u00a0kulturinstitutioner i Sverige och Europa.<\/p>\n

The lecture will discuss how artists of the 1970s, used the home to frame political issues in their\u00a0art. Home environments have a complex background in art history. It is in many ways a neglected\u00a0<\/span>site, but nevertheless central to how art has evolved during the 20th century. Depictions of the\u00a0home was, for example, used by the Swedish artist Carl Larsson (1853-1919) in his national\u00a0romantic idylls from the turn of the century, as well as by pop artist, frequently using everyday and\u00a0household items in their art. The theme is also strongly influenced by gender stereotypes,\u00a0especially visible in the media reception of many artists work in the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n

MacLeod\u2019s lecture is primarily about artists who worked with, and questioned, the division of\u00a0labor, capitalism and artistic traditions in the 1970s, but will also offer historical perspectives, as\u00a0well as reflections on the question of the home in art in a globalized contemporary world.\u00a0Katarina Wadstein MacLeod is Associate Professor of Art History at S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University College\u00a0in Stockholm, and as a lector in art history and theory at Konstfack, the University College of Arts,\u00a0Crafts and Design in Stockholm. She is also working as an art critic for the Swedish newspaper\u00a0Svenska Dagbladet. Macleod is currently working on a research project on the home as a theme\u00a0in Swedish art during the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n

The lecture is the first in the lecture series Conversation on Populism, including four lectures at\u00a0Sk\u00e5nes Konstf\u00f6rening during 2015 and 2016. The series explores possibilities to focus on power\u00a0structures, integrity, populism and artistic autonomy within the field of art. The question asked is if\u00a0there is a way to do this without being populist, over educational, functional and target oriented.<\/p>\n

Katarina\u00a0Wadstein MacLeod will in her introductory lecture reconnect to the historically important idea of\u00a0artistic autonomy, by highlighting the artistic practices of the 1960s and 1970s. Practices that in\u00a0many ways problematized the very notion of autonomy itself. The remaining lectures in Conversation\u00a0on Populism, will touch upon concepts such as strategic essentialism, and examine both models of\u00a0cultural resistance, as well as the way in which political populism infiltrate cultural institutions in\u00a0Sweden and Europe.<\/p>\n
