\u201cPublicness today has as much to do with sites of production and reproduction as it does with any supposed physical commons, so a popular album could be regarded as a more successful instance of public art than a monument tucked away in an urban plaza.\u201d Seth Price<\/em><\/p>\n

P\u00e5 Sk\u00e5nes konstf\u00f6rening visar Anika Schwarzlose flera nyproducerade verk i form av video, foto och skulpturer. Videon \u201cThe Law Of Good Gestalt\u201d \u00e4r gjord tillsammans med Brian D. McKenna och r\u00f6r sig genom ett landskap av \u00f6vergivna byggnader, f\u00f6rst\u00f6rda monument och artificiella milj\u00f6er. Schwarzloses ber\u00e4ttelse om hur vi f\u00f6rh\u00e5ller oss till material, monument och historien \u00e4r b\u00e5de dystopisk och oroande. Videon \u201cDisassemble – Reassemble – Repeat” visar k\u00e4nda skulpturer tagna ur sitt sammanhang och placerade \u00a0i \u00a0en gemensam fiktiva \u00a0icke-milj\u00f6, \u00a0d\u00e4r \u00a0de \u00a0demonteras \u00a0och \u00a0monteras \u00a0i \u00a0en \u00a0st\u00e4ndig \u00a0r\u00f6relse.<\/p>\n

Till den \u00a0monumentala \u00a0trappan \u00a0h\u00f6r \u00a0videoverket \u00a0\u201dTo Make Oneself Like Something Else\u201d. \u00a0Videon \u00a0visar m\u00e4nniskor som fotograferas vid det ryska monumentet “Monument to the Conquerors of Space”.
\nDe placerar sig vid den del \u00a0av reliefen \u00a0som avbildar k\u00e4nda vetenskapsm\u00e4n involverade i Sovjets rymdprogram och skriver p\u00e5 s\u00e5 vis in sig i monumentet, i historien. Bildserien \u201cArtefacts\u201d best\u00e5r av skulpturer och monument som genom digital slump \u00e4ndrat form och karakt\u00e4r.<\/p>\n

S\u00e5 vrider Schwarzlose p\u00e5 d\u00e5tid, nutid och framtid, n\u00e4r hon (re)konstruerar och f\u00f6rskjuter monumentens sammanhang och d\u00e4rmed dess f\u00f6rankring.

Anika Schwarzlose\u00a0takes public art and the processes of monumentalization in the digital age as her starting point for her solo show at Sk\u00e5nes konstf\u00f6rening.<\/p>\n

We relate to the shaping and preservation of our collective memory in continuously changing ways. In a time when, for many people, public sites increasingly loose their importance as places to visit, gather and contemplate, our relation to monuments is changing. Embodiments of collective memory remain socially relevant, as do our needs for shared acts of remembering, however, the processes of forming collective memories and their monumentalization are changing substantially.<\/p>\n

Collective memory serves as an important mechanism for preserving and transferring society\u2019s cultural capital, identity, coherence, and its existence, while government policies, social rules, popular culture and media can make a great influence in shaping it. Media and memory are closely intertwined, as media can enhance, corrupt, extend or replace memory. While personal memory feeds on media technologies, collective memory is defined by the media\u2019s shaping powers. Mass media can influence collective memory by filtering, ordering, editing and inscribing past events, through its function as an archival resource.<\/p>\n

Anika Schwarzlose<\/strong> is born in Berlin and based in Amsterdam.
